The PEX Transmission Line (PEX) is a new 345 kV alternating current intertie line that will provide critical transmission infrastructure to strengthen northeast Colorado’s electrical grid and provide more reliable and resilient electricity for the area’s residents, businesses, and communities. This line will also unlock in-state resources to meet the growing demand for electricity. Through close coordination with local communities and state agencies, PEX will reduce project infrastructure on private land by building more than half of the line along the I-76 corridor.
The buildout of Colorado’s transmission system is critical to meet the in-state demand for energy. PEX represents a $350 million investment in northeast Colorado and will be a catalyst for economic growth and community development in the area.
The buildout of the electric grid in northeast Colorado will fill an existing gap in energy transmission and provide more reliable and resilient electricity for the area’s residents, businesses, and communities, allowing them to keep the lights on during disruptions in power and extreme weather events.
During the approximately two-year construction period, PEX will create more than 100 local construction jobs. The construction workers will earn a prevailing wage, and it is anticipated that total wages earned will exceed $4 million.
PEX will boost the local economy through increased business activity for equipment and materials suppliers as well as hospitality providers. It is estimated that construction will bring $7.5 million in regional economic benefits over a two-year period.
PEX will provide the Colorado Department of Transportation with a public/private fiber optic upgrade to communication capabilities. Co-located fiber will help to bring high-speed, cost-effective internet service to northeast Colorado.
PEX will leverage existing I-76 right-of-way, therefore minimizing the impacts on private land and preserving current land use practices.
